Pineapple with black growth, roach droppings highlight restaurant violations (March 2-March 8)
Inspectors observed cut pineapple covered in black growth at a Houston restaurant last week, according to health inspection records.
At a second Houston restaurant, inspectors observed cockroach and pest droppings a shelf and four live adult cockroaches under the dish washer, the records show.

Each week, Houston health inspectors distribute violations that carry a weight between 1 and 25, increasing in severity. The term “demerit” is used by city health inspectors to describe the weighted value assigned to each violation.
The Houston Chronicle obtained the results of routine health inspections throughout the city and tallied each restaurant’s demerits for a comprehensive list of violations.
