Just in time for hurricane season: National Weather Service eyeing system in Gulf

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring weather forming in the southwestern portion of the Gulf of Mexico, according to a notice late Saturday.

If the weather strengthens into a tropical system in the next five days, it appears it would mainly impact the Bay of Campeche in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico and southern Mexico.

There is no direct impact to Southeast Texas expected at this time, officials said, but experts are keeping an eye on the storm. Hurricane season officially begins Monday.
