Bicyclist shot in church parking lot near Tomball, suspect in custody

An apparent disagreement between a driver and a bicyclist at a Tomball-area gas station turned violent early Thursday morning, police said.

The 28-year-old bicyclist was at a service station at Spring Cypress and Hufsmith-Korhville roads where he and a man in a red Honda car started arguing, according to Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputy A. Hinojosa. The man pedaled away, but the driver apparently chased him down to a nearby church parking lot, Hinojosa said.

That’s when the driver pulled a gun and shot the bicyclist in the head, investigators said. Paramedics airlifted the man to a Houston hospital, where he was expected to survive.

Deputies later spotted the Honda and suspected gunman at another gas station along the Grand Parkway, where he was taken into custody. Investigators recovered a weapon from inside the Honda.

What led to the argument remains under investigation.
