Second child dies after wreck on I-45 near Spring
An 11-year-old boy mortally wounded in a crash Tuesday along Interstate 45 near Spring died at a Houston hospital, the second child killed as a result of the wreck.
The crash also left a 13-year-old dead, both of whom were passengers in the back seat of a Nissan Altima that was stranded in an unprotected HOV lane on I-45 near the Hardy Toll Road. The car had a flat tire, authorities said, so the driver stopped in the HOV lane and waited for help.

The 17-year-old driver of a red Ford Mustang was northbound in the HOV lane when he struck the rear of the Altima. The boys inside the Altima, identified as Johnathan Alexander and Tory Alexander Jr., were both airlifted to a Houston hospital and later pronounced dead.
The Altima’s 18-year-old driver and two other passengers – ages 20 and 15 – were all hospitalized. The Mustang’s driver and his 17-year-old passenger were both hospitalized as well.
The Mustang’s driver was evaluated for intoxication but showed no signs of impairment, according to Harris County Sheriff’s Office senior deputy Thomas Gilliland.
