Houston Food Bank reopens onsite SNAP application assistance office

Houston Food Bank on Monday announced that city residents can once again apply for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) at its 535 Portwall St. location.

The food bank’s onsite assistance office temporarily closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. It is now reopen from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

SNAP offers nutrition aid to eligible, low-income individuals and families. Benefits can be used to buy foods such as bread, cereal, fruits, vegetables, dairy products and proteins.

Applicants who apply in-person at Houston Food Bank must follow COVID-19 safety measures, including a temperature check, mandatory face masks and social distancing. To make an appointment, call 832-369-9390.

If you can’t make it to the food bank, you can submit for assistance by email at cap.resource@houstonfoodbank.org or via an online form.

Clients should bring a photo ID, proof of physical address and income, medical and dependent care expenses, amount of child support paid or received, and rent or mortgage costs.
